How to Bind a Quilt with Cording
Add interest and dimension to your next quilt with this alternative binding method. Instead of sewing a double-fold binding onto your quilt, encase a length of cording inside bias tape and use it to trim your quilt. This gives your quilt a three-dimensional piping all around the edges. Cording is also a great edging option if you are making a quilt with rounded corners.

MATERIALS:
- cording to go completely around quilt top
- bias fabric strip to cover cording (1-1/4” to 1-1/2” wide)
- finished quilt top, batting, and backing
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Fold bias fabric around cording.
- Match and sew raw edges of fabric wrapped cording to raw edge of quilt top, right sides together all around (quilt top should be ready to sandwich with batting and backing).
- Hand or machine quilt to within 1/2” of quilt cording seam.
- Trim batting to match cording seam.
- Trim quilt back, leaving 1/2” all around quilt top.
- Fold quilt backing 1/2” in over batting, matching fold line with cording seam line. Sew all around. Quilt is finished.
