Patchwork Quilted Postcards

Making quilted cards is a fun, easy way to use up fabric scraps from a full-size quilt. Patchwork Quilted Postcards make the perfect accompaniments to quilts given as gifts. Use scraps from the full-size quilt to make a matching card!

MATERIALS:
- Cardstock or notecard
- Fabric scraps for patchwork
- Fabric scraps for borders
- Batting scraps
- Coordinating thread
- Sharpie marker
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Fold the sheet of cardstock in half and cut along the fold to create a postcard if you are not using a notecard.
- Cut the scraps into (24) 1-1/2” squares. Lay out the squares in a pleasing pattern.
- Piece the squares together in rows. Press the seams to opposite sides on each row.
- Sew the rows of patchwork together.
- Cut the border fabric into (2) 2-1/2” x 5” strips and (2) 2-1/2” x 11-1/2” strips.
- Sew the short border strips to the short ends of the patchwork. Trim the border flush with the patchwork.
- Sew the long border strips to the long sides of the patchwork and press.
- Cut out a rectangle of batting slightly larger than the patchwork.
- Quilt the patchwork to the batting in your desired pattern. I stitched in the ditch on all the seams in the patchwork.
- Center the postcard on the quilted piece and trim the borders of the fabric to the size of the postcard.
- At this point, you can glue the quilted fabric to the postcard if you wish. If you are not using glue, use paper clips to align the quilted fabric on the postcard.
- Sew the quilted fabric to the postcard using a zigzag stitch around the perimeter.
- Write a message on the back of the card and you’re done!
