Boxed In Print Throw

The Boxed In Print Throw is a simple quilt pattern that lets you highlight your favorite prints, as in the owl quilt blocks in this example. Cut squares of an attractive print and surround them with two colors of sashing and a contrasting border.

MATERIALS:
- Fabric 1—2-1/4 yards
- Fabric 2—1 yard
- Fabric 3—1-1⁄3 yards
- Fabric 4—1-1/2 yards
- Backing Fabric—3-1/4 yards
- Batting—57" x 80" rectangle
- Accuquilt Go! fabric cutter
- Accuquilt Go! strip cutter - 1" (55052)
- Accuquilt Go! 10" x 24" mat (55113)
- Accuquilt Go! squares - 6-1/2" (55000)
- Accuquilt Go! strip cutter - 4-1/2" (55054)
- Accuquilt Go! strip cutter - 2-1/2" (55017)
CUTTING DIRECTIONS:
Fabric 1:
- Cut 54—6-1/2" squares
Fabric 2:
- Cut 7—4-1/2" strips across width of fabric (WOF) for outer border
Fabric 3:
- Cut 7—2-1/2" strips across WOF for binding
- Cut 24—1" strips across WOF for sashing and inner border, sub cut 9 strips into 45, 1" x 7-1/2" rectangles
Fabric 4:
- Cut 44—1" strips across WOF for block frames; sub cut 22 strips into 108, 1" x 7-1/2" rectangles; sub cut 22 strips into 108, 1" x 6-1/2" rectangles
Tip: Lay each strip set on GO!Squares-6-1/2" (55000) perpendicular to blades to cut into 6-1/2" lengths.
SEWING DIRECTIONS:
- Pin and sew one Fabric #4, 1" x 6-1/2" rectangle to each side of one Fabric #1, 6-1/2" square. Press seams toward rectangles.
- Pin and sew one Fabric #4, 1" x 7-1/2" rectangle to top and bottom of combined square. Press seams toward rectangles. Make 54 blocks.
- Layout blocks for one row, according to diagram, with Fabric #3, 1" x 7-1/2" vertical sashing rectangles.
- Pin and sew blocks and vertical sashing together. Press seams toward sashing. Repeat for nine rows.
- Pin and sew Fabric #3, horizontal sashing between rows according to diagram, piecing together as needed. Press seams toward sashing.
- Add Fabric #3, inner border strips to sides of quilt center. Press seams toward inner border.
- Add Fabric #3, inner border strips to top and bottom of quilt center. Press seams toward inner border.
- Add Fabric #2, outer border strips to sides of quilt center. Press seams toward inner border.
- Add Fabric #2, outer border strips to top and bottom of quilt center. Press seams toward inner border.
QUILTING AND FINISHING:
- Layer batting between quilt top and backing.
- Pin or baste layers together.
- Machine quilt with an all-over design.
- Add binding, mitering corner.
