Something I've found out through trial and error is that not all cutting mats are made the same. Unfortunately, some are more durable than others and I have wrecked my fair share of mats through heavy-handed cutting. Fiskars, a leading brand of cutters and cutting mats, has created an amazing Two-Sided Cutting Mat that is self-healing, allowing for some heavier cutting if you find it difficult to get precise cuts without intense pressure.

This cutting mat comes in three sizes: 12x18, 18x24, and 24x36. On each side there is a measuring grid and 30, 45, and 60 degree bias lines that make creating shapes easy. Want stars or triangles? Say goodbye to searching out patterns that turn out lopsided, because this cutting board will give you perfectly straight lines everytime.

The three sizes of the mat are perfect for any standard size table, and this will be out every day of the week. The only downside to this mat is that when you first receive it, it may have a strong plastic smell. However, in a few days the smell will dissipate and you will be left with a scent-free, heavy-duty cutting board that will last you for years to come.
