Senior Year Graduation Quilt

Note: This quilt features fabrics from the Hallmark Occasions collection from FreeSpirit.

Materials and Cutting Directions:

• 1-1/2 yd Graduation panel
  • (1) 11-1/2" x 45-1/2" “dance” strip –fussy cut
  • (1) 9-1/2" x 45-1/2" “car wash” strip –fussy cut
  • (1) 14-3/4" x 45-1/2" “graduation” strip –fussy cut
     
• 1/4 yd Hat toss in clouds on blue 
  • (3) 4-1/4” square, (10) 3” squares
     
• 1/4 yd Hat toss in clouds on lime 
  • (2) 4-1/4” square, (10) 3” squares
     
• Fat 1/8 yd. Hat toss in clouds on pink  
  • (2) 4-1/4” square
     
• Fat 1/8 yd. Hat toss in clouds on grey
  • (2) 4-1/4” square
     
• Fat 1/8 yd. Hat toss in clouds on orange
  • (1) 4-1/4” square

2. Make a second row in the order of List 2

3. Sew List 1 row of blocks to the top of the 11-1/2" x 45-1/2" “dance” strip.
    
4. Sew List 2 row of blocks to the bottom of the 11-1/2" x 45-1/2" “dance” strip.
   
   

4-Patch Block Row:

1. Sew (2) 3" hat toss in clouds on blue squares to (2) 3” hat toss in clouds on lime squares in 4-patch block. Repeat to make (5) blocks.
   
   
    
2. Sew (1) diploma/hat/confetti on blue 5-1/2” square to (1) 4-patch block. Repeat to make (4) sets.
    
3. Sew (4) sets together to make row. Add last 4-patch block to end to complete row.
   
   
    
4. Sew 9-1/2" x 45-1/2" “car wash” strip to the top of the 4-patch block row.
    
5. Sew 14-3/4" x 45-1/2" “graduation” strip to the bottom of the 4-patch row.
   
   
    
6. Sew two strip sections together to make quilt center.
   
   

Border:

1. Sew (2) 5" white strips together end to end. Sew the strip to the right side of the quilt center, trim even with the quilt top. Sew the extra to another 5” white strip. Sew to the left side of quilt center.
    
2. Sew another (2) 5" white strips together end to end. Sew the strip to the top of the quilt center, trim even with the quilt edge. Sew the extra to the final 5" white strip. Sew to the bottom of quilt center.
    
3. Pin around quilt 1” from border edge. Using a fabric marker, have friends and family sign border inside pinned guide.
    
4. Remove pins. Sandwich quilt top, batting and backing. Quilt using loose, loops avoiding faces and signatures.
    
5. Bind.
