The Quilter's Paper Piecing Workbook by Elizabeth Dackson is a beginning quilter's dream! With more than 20 unique paper-pieced blocks in 18 unique quilting patterns, there's plenty here to get you started. This comprehensive guide teaches the basics of foundation paper piecing, then branches out with more complicated designs.
The workbook opens with a section on how to use the book, as well as an explanation of what other tools you'll need to start quilting (complete with photo guide). Inside the back cover, you'll find a CD-ROM with all of the templates used in the book. You can print out the PDFs as you make your way through the workbook and through the different patterns.
Each quilting project in this book contains large, bold photographs and brightly colored diagrams. It's easier to learn paper piecing when you can see what you're cutting, where each piece should go, and what it's supposed to look like in the final product. The Circle of Flying Diamonds Tote and the Twirly-Whirly Mini Quilt specifically struck my fancy.
The patterns gradually get harder as you get deeper into the book. If you like taking baby steps, you can read it straight through with no major problems. If you get the hang of paper piecing more quickly and want bounce around the different patterns in the book, that works too. There's plenty of variety here to keep you busy quilting for a long, long time.
