I am really not sure about this being an evening project, but I have tons of scraps that I need to use up, so this looks like my next project. I also would not consider this a beginner project. I think starting with a basic square block rag quilt might be the best way to start and work up to this. It really is beautiful! Has anyone made this in an evening?
