This is a great patriotic, scrappy pattern. If you read through the whole article, 2 layouts are provided a horizontal layout and a vertical layout. Choose the one that works for you. Im going to make vertical as its unique.

Just finished this quilt and in mail to daughter in law and realized your pattern that I followed is backwards with the stars!! Am so very disappointed that you continue to show this pattern the way it is. Especially since I now read that someone else informed you that it was backwards!! Any other quilt would be fine but the US Flag quilt. Lots of money spent on this project!!

Hello Lynn, This particular flag quilt was designed to be displayed vertically. According to flag etiquette, when the American flag is displayed vertically the union (the stars of the flag) should always be at the top left. That being said, I am sorry that you are not satisifed with the final product and I hope you continue to enjoy the other free quilting pattern we have avaialble over at FaveQuilts.com. Other than being backwards, it's a great quilt idea. I would make the blocks smaller and make the right number of stripes, though. If have been gathering reds, whites and blues for a couple of years to make a flag quilt.
